Buddy, I have bad news. I accidentally ran over your tablet. I guess I was so distracted by you and your brother bickering that I never looked to see if there was a tablet in the driveway, and now it's destroyed, never to be used again while your mom and I are trying to talk to you, or while we have visitors at the house who would like to meet you.
I don't know how it got back there. Did you put it away like I asked? You didn't, did you? See. I've been saying for years – we have to put our things away or something might happen to them.
No idea how it ended up outside. Maybe you carelessly dropped it. Maybe the dog was playing with it. Maybe the wind blew it. I'm afraid how your tablet was placed right behind the rear driver's side wheel of my car in the perfect place for it to get run over repeatedly is a mystery that will never be solved.
Why did I keep driving over it? I was trying to figure out what the gosh-darn heck was going on, bud, so I kept driving forwards and backwards over it, again and again, saying, “Am I running over something? What IS THAT?! What could that be?”
I'm sorry.
I know how much you loved your tablet.
You played with it a lot – in the morning when you woke up, while you ate breakfast, in the car, when you got home from school, while the rest of us were playing board games, when you were supposed to be cleaning the house, when your friends came over and wanted to play, when the dog stared at you with his lonely brown eyes and a toy in his mouth, when I got the mitts out to play catch, when the babysitter sailed into our backyard via umbrella and sang while she was here and ultimately made me rethink my personal work-life balance. You had your nose in that tablet the entire time.
No, I can't get a new one. They're out of tablets. Yeah, I checked on the internet. Totally out. When will they have more? I don't know. It could be forever. There are supply chain issues. That's when not everyone can get all the parts they need to make something. The supply chain issues started during the pandemic. If you think about it, at the end of the day, the real reason you don't have a tablet anymore is because of the pandemic. It took so much from all of us.
No, you can't have your brother's tablet.
As of right now, my almost 5 year old believes that I threw his tablet in the trash two days ago and he watched the sanitation worker come the next morning and take it away in the truck. In reality, I hid it in an accessible place that one day he might find like an easter basket. Or not... lol
👏👏👏 Be right back, I have some devices to run over
